Noon — Rest from Work, 1890–92
Vincent van Gogh
Oil on canvas · 25 3/4 x 32 1/4 in. (65.4 x 81.9 cm)
A tender midday nap copied and reimagined from a Jean-François Millet print.
After Millet, van Gogh painted two peasants asleep in the golden shade of a haystack, boots off, at ease under a warm midday sky. It is one of his most restful, sun-soaked works — rural life rendered in glowing yellows and blues.
